Risk Assessments

The Town Council carries out various risk assessments relating to the property it owns, which is primarily different types of street furniture and planters, as it does not own or manage any premises or land and prior to any civic event to ensure public health and safety requirements have been considered appropraite to each occasion. The later are updated annually and inadvance of each civic event.

The Town Council’s property related risk assessments comprise:

Council Newsletters

The Adlington Town Council Newsletter is a regular publication designed to keep residents informed about local news, council updates, and community activities. It offers a snapshot of the council’s work on behalf of the town, including decisions made at meetings, ongoing projects, and opportunities for public involvement.

Through the newsletter, the Town Council aims to share important information in a clear and accessible way—whether it’s highlighting local events, sharing updates on improvements to facilities, or inviting feedback on future plans.

Each edition may also include messages from councillors, useful contacts, and details of how residents can have their say or raise concerns.

The newsletter is part of the council’s commitment to openness and engagement with the community. By keeping everyone up to date, we hope to strengthen the connection between the council and the people it serves, and to encourage active participation in local life.

The newsletter is currently edited by Cllr Bev Speers.

Annual Reports

The Adlington Town Council Annual Report is a summary of the council’s work, achievements, and priorities over the past financial year. It provides residents with a clear overview of how the council has represented the community, delivered services, and managed public resources. It is prepared for presentation and approval at the Annual Town Meeting in May of each year.

The Annual Report combines an overview from the Town Mayor and from the Clerk. Each Town Mayor outlines what they have done in leading the Town Council’s own civic and community programme, the raising of funds for their charitable cause, and in representing Adlington externally in neighbouring Townships. The Clerk’s report summarises the year in Adlington including key initiatives, council decisions, and progress against local priorities. It may also include updates from individual councillors, committees, and working groups, as well as highlights from community events, partnerships, and initiatives supported by the council.

The report gives an overview on the council’s finances, including a breakdown of annual income and expenditure, although more detailed financial data is published separately in line with UK Government and legislation requirements as the Annual Goverance and Accountability Return (AGAR). These documents are listed by year on the website.

The Annual Report is an important tool for transparency and public engagement. It helps residents understand what the council is doing on their behalf and how it is working to improve the Village for everyone.

Register of Interests

The Register of Interests is a public document that records the financial and personal interests of elected councillors. Its purpose is to promote transparency and help prevent any potential conflicts of interest in council decision-making.

All councillors are legally required to complete this register when they take office and must keep it up to date. The register includes details such as employment, property ownership, business interests, shareholdings, gifts or hospitality received in connection with their role, and the interests of close family members.

By declaring these interests, councillors ensure that they act in the public interest and do not benefit personally from council decisions. If a matter arises in a meeting that relates to one of their declared interests, councillors may be required to withdraw from discussion or voting.

The Register of Interests is published online and can be inspected by any member of the public.
